Empreendedorismo, saúde, tecnologias móveis. São estes os principais temas da videoconferência «Social and Mobile Entrepreneurship», a realizar no dia 28 de março, por Jennifer Shine Dyer, pediatra endocrinologista americana. A sessão realiza-se das 15h00 às 16h00, na sala de videoconferência (3.5.28) do edifício III (antiga Reitoria), com inscrição prévia.

As tecnologias móveis aplicadas à saúde
«Mobile phones are becoming an increasingly important platform for the delivery of health interventions. In recent years, researchers have used mobile phones as tools for encouraging physical activity and healthy diets, for symptom monitoring in asthma and heart disease, for sending patients reminders about upcoming appointments, for supporting smoking cessation, and for a range of other health problems. This paper provides an overview of this rapidly growing body of work. We describe the features of mobile phones that make them a particularly promising platform for health interventions, and we identify five basic intervention strategies that have been used in mobile-phone health applications across different health conditions. Finally, we outline the directions for future research that could increase our understanding of functional and design requirements for the development of highly effective mobile-phone health interventions.»

Quem é Jennifer Shine Dyer?
Jennifer Shine Dyer é pediatra endocrinologista no Nationwide Childrens’s Hospital em Ohio e professora assistente na Division of Endocrinology na Ohio State University College of Medicine. Licenciou-se em pediatria, pela University of Texas Health Science Center em San Antonio, no ano de 2000. Especializou-se em endocrinologia entre 2000 e 2006, na University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, em Dallas.

Apesar do seu trabalho como médica, professora e investigadora, Jennifer Dyer desenvolveu uma aplicação para telemóveis, o EndoGoddess App, que tem como aobetivo auxiliar os doentes com diabetes e dependentes de insulina, contribuindo para uma melhor qualidade de vida.

Com vários artigos publicados com peer-reviewed, alguns deles indexados pela base de dados de biomedicina PubMed, foi selecionada pela Consumers Research Council of America, como uma das «2010 America’s Top Pediatricians», assim como «top expert curator helping people discover the best health information online», pela OrganizedWisdom Medical Review Board.
