professor e investigador Ronald de Pinho, presidente do MD Anderson Cancer Research Center da Universidade do Texas, um dos maiores centros de investigação e tratamento do cancro a nível mundial, vai estar na Universidade de Aveiro (UA) juntamente com uma delegação de nove investigadores seus colegas, para uma palestra intitulada “Making Cancer History Together”. O evento realiza-se dia 19 de novembro, das 15h00 às 16h15, no auditório do Departamento de Química, numa organização do American Corner da UA, em parceria com a Embaixada dos Estados Unidos da América. A palestra está aberta ao público em geral.
Após a palestra segue-se uma reunião com a delegação do MD Anderson e investigadores da Universidade de Aveiro, Universidade e Hospitais de Coimbra, para discussão de eventuais colaborações entre as instituições. A reunião decorre das 16h30 às 18h00.
Ronald de Pinho é filho de portugueses dos arredores de Ovar, emigrantes nos Estados Unidos da América. Reconhecido internacionalmente pelo seu trabalho de investigação nas áreas do cancro e doenças degenerativas associadas à idade, ocupou durante 10 anos cargos de docente no Albert Einstein College of Medicine em Nova Iorque. Esteve 14 anos no Dana-Farber Cancer Institute e na Harvard Medical School, em Boston. Foi diretor fundador do Belfer Institute for Applied Cancer Science no Dana-Farber e professor no Department of Medicine (genetics) da Universidade de Harvard e investigador na American Cancer Society Research.
Em setembro de 2011 tomou posse como presidente do MD Anderson Cancer Center.

It is both a degree-granting academic institution and a cancer treatment and research center located at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas.
