Isabel Huet | Supervising PhDs

Excerto:

“When I was invited to write this post, I felt I had a good opportunity to share with you my experience as a doctoral supervisor and how the professional development of supervisors is perceived and supported in institutions worldwide. Is the educational context shaping the professional development of supervisors or is the professional development of supervisors still a myth in some countries and institutions? How can institutions support supervisors who need to supervise at a distance and how ready are we to supervise doctoral students who are in other parts of the world or who rarely come to the campus to conduct their research? It’s not my intention to provide an answer for these questions but rather present few arguments that are based on my own experience as a supervisor, in running workshops/courses for postgraduate supervisors and from the research conducted in the area.”
