Realizam-se no dia 27 maio, pelas 14h30, por videoconferência, as provas do Programa Doutoral em Educação de Valentina Piacentini, com o título “Educação em ciências e integração do Inglês para a aprendizagem: Estudo de uma abordagem CLIL numa escola do 3.º CEB em Portugal”.

Valentina Piacentini é orientada pelos investigadores do CIDTFF, Ana Raquel Simões e Rui Marques Vieira, do Departamento de Educação e Psicologia da Universidade de Aveiro.

Resumo:

“Science and foreign languages like English require meaningful learning environments. CLIL (Content and Language Integrated learning) is a possible approach for learning English while in use and improving Science education. Teaching methodologies aware on language – such as CLIL – and other modes implied in Science are beneficial for its learning. Research on a CLIL programme – the Portuguese “English Plus” (EP) project – in which Science is taught/learnt with/in English, is thus relevant. Aiming to answer research questions about the role of language(s) (verbal language and other representation modalities) within Science education, effect of the additional language on the learning of Science through EP and possible orientations for teacher practices in CLIL and non-CLIL classes, we designed a descriptive-explanatory case study and gathered information through a diversity of methods. The students’ need for scaffolding/structuring the specific discipline within both CLIL and non-CLIL settings and a greater teacher’s attention to Language(s) used when English is also present in Science classes emerge, advocating the adoption of a language-focused approach for Science education.”
